Aggie Square will host a cooking demonstration on October 14 focused on healthy, locally sourced food and the benefits of induction cooking.

Presented by the Center for Land-Based Learning in partnership with SMUD, the event is part of SMUD’s Sustainable Communities Program, which aims to increase access to and awareness of induction cooking among communities who historically haven’t had access to the technology.

The demonstration will be put on by UC Davis Health’s Chef Santana Diaz, a James Beard Award-winning chef known for his food-as-medicine philosophy and farm-to-fork approach to healthy cooking. Chef Santana will demonstrate how to prepare Butternut Squash Maple Soup using locally sourced ingredients from the Mobile Farmer’s Market, while sharing tips for cooking nutritious meals on an induction cooktop.

The demonstration at Aggie Square is part of a series organized by the Center for Land-Based Learning with past cooking demos held in communities like Downtown and North Sacramento.

Attendees will receive a copy of the featured recipe and have the opportunity to sample the finished dish.

Free parking in the Aggie Square Garage will also be provided for all attending community members.

50% discounts are available for CalFresh EBT purchases at the Mobile Farmer’s Market.
